In February 2009, Tim attended the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). The LVI is known as one of the most advanced cosmetic dentistry schools in the world. The LVI curriculum is centred around neuromuscular dentistry, which focuses on ensuring that a patient’s bite is in the ideal position. Typically, smile makeovers consist of crowning teeth and/or placing multiple veneers. However, just placing multiple crowns and veneers on a patient’s teeth to create a pretty smile without resolving any underlying problems with the patient’s bite can ultimately lead to jaw joint problems, broken veneers, veneers falling off, and teeth becoming mobile (i.e. the dental work failing). In contrast, the goal of becoming an LVI trained dentist is so that one can not only create a beautiful smile but also create a smile that feels comfortable and that will last.
