Looking In The Mirror

Have You Had A Dental Examination Recently?

We often do not know what is happening in our own mouths in terms of our dental health.  We cannot see all surfaces of our teeth or gums and are not dentally trained to know what we are looking for or what we are looking at.   This is why it is so important to see your dentist regularly for an examination and x-rays as well as the hygienist for recommended cleans.

The key dental health concerns are not just plaque build-up on your teeth or tooth pain which you may be aware of.  There are numerous important dental health issues which need to be checked and addressed regularly such as:  gum recession; pocketing around your teeth (which may indicate periodontal disease); the stability of your teeth and dental restorations; abnormalities in your mouth tissues; cracks in teeth; cavities (which can also occur below the surface of the tooth); gaps from tooth loss; dying nerves (which affect the root of the tooth); occlusion (your bite); and jaw joint function.  All of these aspects can significantly affect the long-term health of your teeth, gums, and mouth in general.

The dentists at Barker Dental Care utilise several pieces of equipment to enhance their ability to spot problems early giving our patients the best outcomes possible.  Firstly, our dentists use dental magnification loops.  The loops magnify what can be seen by eye meaning that our dentists can see more clearly aiding in diagnosis and early detection of dental issues.   Secondly, our dentists also use intra-oral cameras.  These cameras allow the dentist to take pictures inside the mouth so that our patients can also see for themselves any dental issues they may have.

While going to the dentist may not top of your to-do list, it is a crucial task to ensure that you stay dentally fit.   If you have not been to the dentist in a while, give one of our reception team a ring on 01489 572308 to schedule your dental examination.
